Preparation and Processing of Live2D Project

Processing of illustration

As Live2D enables the artwork itself to be changed for a three-dimensional representation, at least one original illustration is required. Before importing the illustration, it is necessary to divide the original drawing by the parts.
Save the original illustration in layers by part in the PSD data in advance so that the layer names and display sequence can be inherited when reading into the Cubism Editor.

According to the tutorial video, here are some notices for illustration processing.
  1. Illustration of character mainly split into three sections: hair, face and body.
  2. Hair can be split into front hair, side hair and back hair.
  3. Side hair like the double ponytail should be split into different layers.
  4. It is also essential that the back hair should be painted in full to avoid blank parts when during movement.
  5. Face should be divided into eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, ears and the blank face itself. All pairs of components need to be separated independently.
  6. The eyes are divided into lashes (better to split in upper and lower lash), pupils, and white eyes (painted in full).
  7. The mouth needs to be split into the upper and lower lips and the inner mouth for closure.
  8. More of the inner mouth is exposed when it is open, so it needs to be drawn in a larger circle. The lip line needs to add a ring of skin colour to it to cover the larger part of the inner mouth.
  9. The body is divided into neck, torso, arms and legs.
  10. The neck should ideally be drawn to the height of the mouth so as not to break when the facial model is in motion.
  11. The arms are best divided into three parts: Upper arm, forearm and hand.
  12. Try to split accessories that can be moved into separate layers as well.
  13. Before importing the PSD file the line and colouring layers need to be merged.
